Let’s Find Your Wellness Together
Does the pressure to live up to ‘good vibes only’ leave you wondering if there’s something wrong with you? We live in a disconnected world where vulnerability is shamed. Therapy with me is an attempt to provide an alternative: a space of understanding, safety and non-judgement. I believe that humans make change while in relationships that support empowerment, therefore I place high value on our working relationship. Working with me will allow you to have a space where you’re nurtured, challenged, and seen.

I value and honor the diverse worldviews you will bring to our work. I welcome all relational constellations, folks with disabilities, and members of LGBTQIA2S+ community. I am sex-positive, body neutral, kink-friendly, and strive to work with an anti-oppressive framework.
I hope you choose to reach out and seek support, and if that’s with me, I can’t wait to get to know you. Let’s begin by connecting and resourcing you to ride the big and small emotional waves, and then open the door to work towards your deep seeded goals.
Common Reasons For Seeking Therapy
Anxiety & Depression
Anxiety and depression are inter-related but vastly different experiences. I like to use the metaphor that anxiety is like living life on fast-forward, while depression is like life in slo-mo. Both of these issues feel like you’re moving the wrong speed, which makes it very hard to feel like you’re enjoying the view.
Finding Meaning & Purpose
I’m always tuned into the ways that my clients reveal their values. From the first session we’re going to be mapping out what’s most important to your ‘life worth living’. But maybe it’s gotten harder to listen to the part of you that knows what you want.
Trauma
Trauma is personal, intimate, and unique. Trauma is more common than most of us want to believe. But that doesn’t mean that we as a society are adept at supporting survivors. These experiences leave a lasting impact on your body, brain, and worldview.
Hi, I’m Lisa
Aside from my work, I love to read (particularly nonfiction), pet my cat, take a dip in the ocean, host dinner parties, and make art. You’ll also often find me laughing. Either quietly to myself as I listen to a podcast, or loudly when I’m surrounded by people I love.

In the Counselling Room
As you search for a counsellor, you’re probably going to read a lot of bios or ‘about me’ sections that are nice, but you don’t really feel like you know the person you’re reading about or how they work. I believe that you should know what you’re getting into, with as much clarity as is reasonable.
Some of the identities I hold include: Caucasian, settler on Coast Salish land, cis-gendered, post-secondary educated, able-bodied, neuro-typical, English-speaker. I own these upfront because they inform how I work. I work hard to acknowledge the privileges and power I have and hold space for uplifting more marginalized identities.
I go at your pace. You set the speed, and I’ll build our road map around that.
When you work with me, you’re getting an empathic listener, yes, for sure. But I’m in the business of change creation. I’m about helping you make new and different (and sometimes scary!) choices. Let’s feel out any barriers and find courage to look more closely at what’s holding you in place.
I don’t tell you what to do. But I am good at helping you figure that out. We peel back layers of stuff that gets in the way of your values, like overwhelm or negative self-talk or trauma response, to figure out what you want to do.
I’ll never say “I told you so” if you do something you regret or have a set-back along the way. Not only is it judgemental, but it’s not the reality of how change happens. I’m not going to abandon you even if you tell me you’re ashamed or embarrassed by a choice you made. We can find new and supportive ways for you to be accountable for your choices.
I’m in the business of being helpful and compassionate – not being an authority. I’m an advisor who can help put together the pieces of your complex puzzle. Let’s work together on it.
Sessions with me don’t always look like sitting face to face and talking, because that’s not how all of us communicate our best. Sometimes we need to be creative in how you access your own story. Maybe we move around, maybe we do some breathwork or meditation, maybe we do some art, maybe we talk about a book we both read, maybe we don’t talk much at all, maybe we listen to a playlist of songs, maybe you show me a social media post that really resonated. Let’s find out how you want to author your story.
If this sounds good – great! Let’s be in touch. If you read this and thought “she seems lovely, but isn’t quite the right fit for me”, I’m happy to pass along a referral to one of the many amazing counsellors I consider colleagues, mentors and friends.
Modalities Used
You have the right to know how I’m making sense of your challenges, and what I think will work best to address them. That means part of my job is translating research and theory into information you can integrate into the real world.
I draw on a variety of therapeutic modalities or theories of change, but they all center on three main tasks:
Understanding how emotions are experienced in the body, and learning to feel emotion fully and to completion.
Understanding how traumatic experiences impact our ability to feel a sense of safety, and learning how to regain that sense of safety.
Understanding how stories about who we are and what we value get lost in everyday life, and how to reclaim direction.
I rely on the follow therapies to do this work:
- Accelerated Emotional Dynamic Psychotherapy
- Mindful Self-Compassion Focused Therapy
- Emotional Focused Therapy
- Attachment Theory
- Internal Family Systems Therapy
- Narrative Therapy
- Relational Psychotherapy
- Trauma Informed Psychotherapy
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and/or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Treatment Approaches
These are three of the more common reasons for seeking therapy, and a little bit about how work with me addresses these concerns.

Both of these issues feel like you’re moving the wrong speed, which makes it very hard to feel like you’re enjoying the view.
The experience of anxiety comes along with feelings of fear, dread, shame, guilt and worry. Anxiety is also often accompanied by an inner critic, whose harsh voice can be overwhelming. I work with anxiety by targeting the inner critic and the repetitive narratives that keep us tethered to the idea that if we aren’t worrying, we aren’t being productive and will lose control.
Depression is not just being tired and lacking motivation or purpose. It’s all consuming and colors each thought, behavior and emotion in it’s wake. It is a relentless pull towards feelings of worthlessness, apathy, and even self-hatred. I approach depression with compassion, patience and targeted interventions that clarify what is worth living for in your life.

I’m always tuned into the ways that my clients reveal their values. From the first session we’re going to be mapping out what’s most important to your ‘life worth living’. But maybe it’s gotten harder to listen to the part of you that knows what you want. Maybe something about who you are doesn’t align with those values anymore. Or maybe you had a big change in your life and what you thought was important now falls flat. Our therapeutic relationship can be a place to talk this through, let go of old ways of being, try out new parts of your identity, or get back to basics and figure out the big question: who am I?
My Approach to Trauma

Trauma is personal, intimate, and unique. Trauma is more common than most of us want to believe. But that doesn’t mean that we as a society are adept at supporting survivors. These experiences leave a lasting impact on your body, brain, and worldview. The good news is that there is a way to find your way through life post-trauma. I have useful experience that I use to guide trauma survivors into a renewed way of being in the world.
I have experience with supporting survivors who carry a wide variety of trauma experiences. My work experience has been with organizations that target suicide prevention, family and relationship difficulties, relationship violence, sexual violence, immigration and refugee concerns, and LGBTQI experiences. And while those are specific areas I have experience with, I want to understand your story of trauma so that we can create a treatment plan that is going to work for you: in your world, in your body, and with your values in mind.
